Remote Playlisting

Creating Playlists Remotely

Music Share for Seniors believes that all older adults living in long-term care should have access to music that is meaningful and memorable. Ontario has many rural communities and at times, it can be very difficult to provide in-person solutions. Music Share’s Remote Playlisting service provides older adults living in long-term care with personalized music playlists that can be accessed on devices owned and operated by the long-term care community.

Positive Impact of Personalized Playlists

As part of this service, Music Share for Seniors provides a personalized Spotify account that is routinely maintained and updated with new music. The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (2022) states that, “When used appropriately, music can shift mood, manage stress-induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, facilitate cognitive function and coordinate motor movements.” This is because music requires little to no mental processing, so singing music does not require the cognitive function that is not present in most dementia patients.
